ABOUT US

  • Sid, Founder

Sidney Pompa-Sidhu, Sid,  doesn’t shy away from tough subjects. Sid was raised by a single mother. By a young age she had already become familiar with the fear fueling the actions of women struck by poverty.

Now, Sid is an aspiring teacher, honing her trait by working with kids in the poverty-stricken boroughs of Toronto, and teaching English to Syrian refugees in Ottawa. She is polishing her skills while majoring in Criminology at the University of Ottawa. When a class assignment brought her face-to-face with the perils and pitfalls  of Ottawa’s entertainment district Sid sought out local organisations and a partnership with Origin Trade to raise funds and awareness for Ottawa’s families in need.

  • Mariam, Communications

Mariam Zohouri loves Ottawa for the warmth of its citizens and the vibrancy of its businesses. Her passion for both landed her marketing gigs across the city: from building brands in Kanata’s vibrant tech hub to larger-than-life event planning with Ottawa 2017.

Like so many immigrants, Mariam’s parents fled disaster to give their children a better life in Canada. They raised her to “keep this country great” by giving back when you’ve got it good. When Sid approached her with her plans for the coffeehouse, Mariam was ready to give back to the community that has given her so much.

Helping Mom & Young will be collecting clothing and financial donations, in support of organizations dedicated to giving aid to women and children.

These organizations are in need of resources to help these women escape their troubled situations and desperate environments.

By attending our event you are offering direct support to these women and children in the Ottawa-Carleton area by raising awareness for an issue so easily dusted under the rug of our nation's capital.

Join us at 7:00PM on the date of November 16, 2016, at Origin Trade Coffee Shop and Lounge for an evening of support for those who need it most: mothers and their young.
